CBD stands for cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis plants. The cannabis plant contains a variety of unique compounds known as cannabinoids, of which CBD is one. CBD has been touted for a wide variety of health issues and is considered a key component of cannabis' long history of being used as a medicinal plant. Unlike another cannabinoid you may have heard of, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not produce any psychoactive effects.
The Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 legalized the growth, harvesting and processing of industrial hemp at the federal level in the US, as long as it contains less than 0.3% THC. This change in legal status has led to the explosion in popularity of CBD in the US, with CBD now being sold in all 50 states, though a few states do restrict CBD sales more tightly than others with several requiring 0% THC. The Modern Candy Company only uses CBD with 0% THC.
Nope! The compound in cannabis that produces a ‘high’ is THC. All Modern Candy products are THC free. CBD, on the other hand, is completely non-psychoactive, meaning you can drive, work or perfect your new snake charming act!
Our bodies contain a network of native cannabinoid receptors collectively known as the endocannabinoid system. This system is essential for regulating the body’s baseline state, also known as homeostasis. If this baseline state is disturbed, the endocannabinoid system plays a key role in returning the body to this state by increasing endocannabinoids; that is, cannabinoid compounds created within our own bodies. CBD affects our bodies by interacting with this endocannabinoid system.
CBD has been touted for a wide variety of health issues, though more research needs to be done or completed to verify its efficacy in many areas. However, initial results from many studies do seem to be promising.
Here's a brief summary from the Harvard Medical Blog:
CBD is non habit forming, generally considered safe, even at high dosages, and with no psychoactive effects, taking CBD will not impair cognitive abilities. However, CBD can interact with some medications and so you should consult with your doctor before taking any CBD supplements.

The therapeutic dose of CBD is not well studied in humans and so it's hard to say exactly how much a person should take. If you're new to trying CBD, we recommend starting with a quarter or half of a piece of candy, each of which contains 20 mg, and then build up from there if desired. Many of our customers report that 20 mg works well for them.
